It has a lot of rust and looks well worn. The biggest issue I see is it looks like the cap iron is broken. With time and work and possibly replacing the cap iron I think you could turn this back into a working plane.

16 November 2016 at 1:31 pm #142451Thanks Brett
I had not thought of that and it was the last of a bottle.
I used a new bottle for the re-glue. I am going to take the clamps off in a bit and see how it is.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions
Michael15 November 2016 at 3:51 pm #142418Took it apart planed the bottom flat again. Glued up and its in the clamps again. I am going to try to get some finish on it asap once it comes out of the clamps
Thanks
Michael14 November 2016 at 11:09 pm #142414I can close it using a clamp but not with hand pressure. So my concern would be it pulling apart even if I used epoxy. I tried superglue just on the off chance it would work. It didn’t..
I am not sure I could get epoxy into the gap so it is looking like I am going to try to pull it apart.
On the plus side the finish is very forgiving and once the box is put back together it should be perfect14 November 2016 at 10:28 pm #142413I did make sure it sat flush before I did the glue up. I am starting to think it is the piece of wood that is just going to be a problem. It was cupped when I got it and I worked it till it was flat. I think with the changes in humidity the wood is trying to cup again.
The fun will be getting it back apart with out messing up anything else.

22 September 2016 at 6:39 pm #140746I have a course and an extra course and while I was happy with how flat they where but I was not happy with how quickly they stopped cutting. I now use the course plate to polish with.
Putting an edge on a double edged sword might have been to much for them. -
