Hi,
I have used them more for individual dogs more than holdfasts, but I can say I’ve seen a little bit of compression around the holes but nothing major.
My plan if they did get loose is to core out each hole and fill with hardwood that I then cut a new holdfast hole into.
You can also buy liners for the dog holes, but I have spare sapele and oak lying around and I’m cheap 😂

Hi,
My bench is built the same, and same material.
Make sure you use a super sharp bit to bore the holes, as tear out was an issue for me.
You will also probably have to relieve the underside of each hole as I did, as 4-4.5” could be too thick for the holdfasts.

I always think of things like Evostick as more in the epoxy world.
They are not natural glues, like hide glue etc.
Personally I match the glue to the job:
PVA / Tight Bond – general woodworking
Hide Glue – restorations, veneer repairs, antiques, etc
Epoxy – jobs that need a long open time, things that don’t have good wood to wood contact, repairing splits in wood, etc. never for joinery.
Not sure that answers your question, but hope it helps
Cheers

I think a full width cleat of a decent size screwed and glued to the wall and the cabinet respectively should be fine. I have a cabinet half that size that holds all my metal planes (a lot 😂) and it’s rock solid years after I hung it. Cleat is a 5” x 0.75” board cut on the 45.

That’s a very hard wood with a very soft wood, when you are test fitting the sapele will crush the fibers in the pine.
If your joints are great off the saw you can minimise that, although I think it will impact the visual quality of the joint.
Also, l’d give some thought to expansion and contraction, although they will only move a tiny amount it will be two different tiny amounts.
I’d try it with a test joint, then bring it in the house and leave it where the final piece would go and see what happens over a few weeks. That situational movement due to the change of environment will at least give you a guide to any seasonal movement.
Cheers

I research family history, so have seen my share of old documents.
I don’t think the first word is “This”, compare the letters to others, the last one is not an “s” in my view.
Also no sign of a “k” for “Bac”.
I’d guess at some kind of biblical (?) quote. It does not look like a manufacturer inscription.

Hi,
You can clamp a long length of wood next to the groove to use as a saw guide?
At some point you’ll need to get a plough plane though.
Get an old one, like a Record 44. You should be able to pick one up on eBay with cutters for £40-£50 or thereabouts.
No need to buy a new one, they are too expensive.
Or look at The Vintage Tool Patch on Facebook, there is a weekly auction. Good stuff and good prices.
