Cutting your dovetails and fitting the counterparts is probably one of the most rewarding aspects of drawer making. It’s the seemingly insignificant movements with the tools that can escape us. So, in this episode, Paul focuses on explaining his approach and what patterns he has established in his daily practices of dovetailing. Dovetails are the signature joint of fine furniture making, no doubt. This step-by-step approach establishes the patterns of masters of woodworking throughout the ages.
I am continually amazed at the speed and accuracy of your dovetail making. I never get tired of watching you and I always learn something new. I just love doing dovetails because of your teaching. Thanks again Paul.
Paul is using poplar. I might have missed it, but is this American poplar, sometimes referred to as Tulipwood?
I asked Paul and his reply is below:
Americans alone adopted the name tulipwood instead of poplar for no particular reason and poplar is grown throughout Europe so mine is not American poplar but European. It grows throughout Europe Eurasia, the UK, North America, North Africa.
