Opening this series with construction-grade wood may not be everyone’s choice, but we assure you it is dynamic. Also, it is worth noting that vernacular furniture made from softwoods was commonplace in the 1800s – so no snobbery there. This episode down-sizes the stock from the two-by studs to create panels, legs and rails. We plough the grooves for the panels prior to joinery and use the groove walls to establish both mortise and tenons throughout, and this practice then helps us to position the mortise and tenons too.
Good stuff. Nice to see you using timber that is easily purchased from a good timber stockist that is not too expensive.
Well done Paul. I just love the way you work.
Inspirational as always.
Thanks Paul. I have a woodworking class I am taking on my summer holiday to make a tool chest like the jointers tool chest you did a number of years ago on Master Class. We will be making it out of Sugar Pine. Can’t wait to work with pine. Love the smell I get with it.
