The plinth for this project displays the half-lap dovetails to form both corners and Paul uses his favourite methods to guarantee an outcome that expresses the perfection he strives for. The cabinet at this stage is a heavy unit, but it gets heavier as Paul makes the top upstand, replete with drawers, etc. Paul wanted a plinth unit that was equal to the task and this one fits the bill. To keep everything square, Paul used an old joiner’s trick for bracing until the glue sets up. The simplest methods are always the best!
Hello
At 4:19 of the SellersHome TV Unit video , Paul uses what appears to be a metal dovetail marker. Looks similar to the wooden ones we make.
Was it shop made or is it commercially available.
Your oak wood looks very beautiful…
He once said in a previous video that it was one he had a friend make – with the possibility of making it commercially available – have heard nothing more since.
@Flemming Aaberg is correct. Paul’s design but made by a friend.
At 35:54 you show the brilliance of marking the overall width of the adjoining piece. It allowed you to cut down further and get rid of more waste while still keeping the kerfs hidden in the joint. It is things like this that I love to see. Thank you team!
