To tie the end frames permanently together, Paul uses a cross-rail, dovetailed at each end into the end frames top and bottom. These dovetails are consistent with traditional practices on furniture pieces such as desks, but Paul adopted these for creating the perfect union between desk sides and drawer openings. Paul also decided on an unusual meeting point between the drawer front and the side panels by using a self-centering/aligning mitered feature, but that won’t be apparent until he has made the large drawer later.
Thanks Paul and team. Greatly appreciate all the thought and time that must have been put into the design.
Is the long joint between the side panels and back panels just glued without anything fancy? There’s no rabbet or anything for alignment?
I checked with Paul and his answer was: “no”.
