Southwestern Themed Screen Doors by Tom Doyon
My client asked me to design and build a set of screen doors for his home that would match his Southwestern decor. While talking to him, I drew out an idea and showed it to him. He immediately agreed and so I took some measurements and went back to my shop to get to work. Two weeks later I went back to his house and unloaded his doors. He was beyond himself… his reaction was incredible. He was so happy. It took me some time to install them, and the whole time he just went on and on about every single detail. I built the doors out of pine. The bull skull is hand carved with the exception of the horns that I used as the handles. The cactus, rocks and rattlesnake were also hand carved and dry brush painted. When I finished the woodwork, I sprayed them with an exterior grade polyurethane and installed the screens and hardware. I love adding carved elements to my work. Even a set of screen doors can be turned into something really cool, with just a little bit of imagination and work. The last time I saw him, he told me that he had rewritten his will to include the doors. Can you believe that? The doors I designed and built are in the awesome man’s last will and testament. I was so honored. It is one of my “signature” pieces, and one that I am so proud of.

Carriage House Doors by Burl Rice
Garage doors, in African Mahogany

Grandmother Clock by Trevor Molyneux
Grandmother Clock in Oak. Finished with tung oil followed by satin water-based varnish. All wood was reclaimed from old architraves, a very old table top, an old kitchen door and drawer fronts and the offcuts from a new oak worktop. All the fittings were from car boot sales and eBay. Although it looks genuine, the clock parts are actually radio controlled clock mechanisms (one for the second hand and one for the minute and second hand so I don’t have to wind it up(!) and the pendulum is also battery controlled. The weights are purely decorative.

“TieYerLacesUp” Footstool by Matt Sims
