Dave,
Very nice cabinet. I took the liberty of putting the pic of your cabinet on my desktop at work. I often change my desktop with different photos of woodworking. Everyone asks if it is mine and I have to say no. And they say whoever made did a good job. 🙂
Dave have to say most excellent work there, as others have said, very inspirational, I’d love to release my tools from the rag tag collection of plastic boxes that they currently reside in. I particularly like the way you have attached your saws, looks really nice using wood.. brackets??? (not sure of the correct term!)
Simon, thanks. For me the tool storage thing was first and foremost on my to do list, its liberating getting the tools out of boxes. It makes wood working so much more enjoyable when everything has its place. Making the tool brackets took along time, lots of work with coping saws, rasps, files. Plus deciding where everything should go is another fun decision making process, Things moved about as I went along.
Definitely high on my to-to list (after the telly cabinet we desperately need) and I love your design, I may just have to borrow a few ideas 😉
Do the screws on the brackets stay tight? or is that a problem you might have to cope with in the future? Do you have magic screws? I suppose if you have an adequate… shank … is that the right word? They will spin freely but stay snug.
I just installed brass screws as they are easier on tool edges. So far they haven’t come loose but eventually they might. Generally I only have to turn the locking bit 1/4 of a turn so for the most part they stay tight, if they come loose I’ll just cinch them tight with a screwdriver. I’m sure there are more elaborate systems out there but so far this seems to do the job.

Anonymous28 March 2013 at 12:16 am #10118I think you’ve found your niche in life Dave my friend. 🙂 It’s extremely gratifying to see someone enjoy and come to terms with crafting in a manner that’s capable of inspiring other’s creativity and desire to complete projects.
9 April 2013 at 11:43 am #10654Fantastic work, Dave! A tool cabinet is top of my list of things to make for the new shop and yours is a great example. I’m going to measure up and see where I could fit one in. I may be asking you lots of questions if you don’t mind!
George.
