Thanks Ken, very interesting and useful advice.
Likewise Steve, I totally agree I can’t imagine those chemicals are all that nice if your in contact with them over a long period of time. I watched a vid on Youtube a few months back because I realise I didn’t have a clue how they made PT wood, very eye opening.
Tool gloat is the best kind of gloat.
What a fantastic way of saying it 🙂
A ruller, sadly not, but I’ll have a word with my Dad and see if you can dig it out, you never know. There was a rusty metal one, that you can use with it that meant for a slide rule (right terminology? mmmmm), I have the other bit for that too but its missing a bolt, I’m sure I will fine something in one of the many bits and bobs boxes I have!
Gutted you didn’t get the chance to Inherit your GD’s tools, I really do feel very lucky and I’m sure that my GD would have been happy that I’m following in his footsteps with this Woodworking interest.
Utterly beautiful work there and a complete inspiration, thanks for posting that Ken.
Makes me want to jack in this web developing lark and follow suit! Actually make real things rather than digital websites that could disappear at the click of a button or the flick of a switch.
Hi George, I’d definitely be interested at some time in the future, I’m just up the road near Stamford 🙂 So its wouldn’t be too far of a drive. I’m kind of only really just starting out learning how to work wood so I feel I need to invest time working with cheaper wood for a while, make my mistakes with pine first! Although in the future It would be great to buy wood like this.
Great idea.
Thanks Rob, My main issue is making limited funds stretch as far as possible. There are a few other things I’d like to get, like a No 4 Plane, the one I have will suffice for a while If I can get it sharp, long term though, thats top on my want (“need” to my wife 😉 ) list after the sharpening solution.
I have to admit the cheese graters do look odd and an actual stone seems the best idea. Just got to find the right ones and who doesn’t enjoy virtual window tool shopping!
Thank you all for your helpful comments, very much appreciated 🙂
I did do a search on the forum but embarrassingly I didn’t think to look through Pauls Blog, since joining up here I almost forgot about the blog (must read more on there). Infact I only discovered Paul last week so I’ve been basically been injecting his 40 years of knowledge in a rapid stream into my head ever since.
Need to actually get building more though!
Again many thanks, I’ll look over the options over the next few days.
