18 August 2016 at 9:56 pm #139486I did buy ( 7 ) of these from Harbor Freight and did the modifications that Paul did when i built my Paul Sellers style work bench. I now reach for these more so than my heavy duty Bessy’s, due to the weight difference. They are actually quite good and a bargain for sure.

16 August 2016 at 11:07 pm #139393Use the right leaded pencil and get one of those “white” erasers, if that doesn’t work take a super fine shaving with your plane.

16 August 2016 at 11:01 pm #139391By chance did you use a marking gauge to plane your thicknessing to? Istruggled with it at the beginning but then the light came on. I have all the power tools but prefer to use hand tools as long as I can and am able.

16 August 2016 at 10:46 pm #139386I agree 2 X 4’s is all you need to make this bench.Just square all 4 sides with plane and glue together, make it any size you want. For the legs I glued up ( 2 ) 2 X 4’s and the apron’s I glued up ( 3 ) 2 X 4’s on edge you could go 4 if you like.
It was a fun project and I absoulutley love the bench and the 38″ height is perfect for me, no crouching over my work which hurts my back.

16 August 2016 at 10:29 pm #139383I use Vinegar to de-rust my planes or tools and there is wood working forum I belong to that has a Sell and Swap section. This is where I buy most of my tools and these are a great bunch of Guy’s and Gal’s who belong to it. I have not had good luck with E – Bay and got burnt a couple times so no more E – Bay for me.
Also I use regular Tite Bound 11 to glue wooden totes together I haven’t had any break yet. Just make sure you sand it up a little and it is a clean break with no chips missing. If it is uneven take a saw to both pieces and add a piece or saw just enough to have both piece so they are flat.
Also I use 3-1 oil and wax to protect all metal.

16 August 2016 at 10:13 pm #139381Where I live there isn’t any decent Flea Markets that sells tools, Antique Stores are a hit or miss. The best place I have found tools is at the yearly Mid – West Tool Collectors meet held yearly in Maitland, Fl about an hour from where I live.
I have had excellent luck in buying used tools in another forum I blelong tool in their Sell and Swap section. Not to many $1 tools though, but better than E – Bay prices.

16 August 2016 at 10:07 pm #139380Paul uses Eze – Lap and with the strop I don’t think you need to go any higher, I have been getting great results and sharpness with mine.

9 August 2016 at 9:15 pm #139242I have wondered the same I am not sure what Paul Sellers use’s. Like mentione I either use Hide Glue or Titebound 11 or 111 which is yellow.
