Traveling Joiner’s Toolbox: Episode 8

Fitting the drawer tills to the main box, so they hang on runners, ensures a smooth passage in and out of the box. Grooving to receive the runners begins with a tenon saw and is finessed with a router plane for the final depth. It’s an unusual but practical alternative to using a machine set up. We think you will enjoy this part, as beyond this you begin to see the whole box in all its glory.

Paul, it is an absolute delight to watch your craftsmanship. Thank you.
Beautiful!
A lovely project. How much will it weigh when it’s complete? I’m guessing it’ll be quite a hefty piece – especially once it is loaded with tools.
Very much enjoying this project. Quick question… I had expected Paul to have used a plough plane for the drawer runner grooves… is there a reason he didn’t, or was this to show another possible method? After watching, I think I will use Paul’s method instead, just to try something different. Thanks to the team!
Hi,
Paul says:
I think on short sections there is not enough registration face to get everything as parallel.

Sorry, never mind… Paul answered this question in the video. Missed it the first time.
Thanks Paul.
Just a thought: I’m going to fit my drawers and runners provisionally BEFORE fixing the back and front panels. It allows greater access and also doesn’t mean potential dulling of the panel points. As long as everything is square, is there a problem Paul has with this?
I’ll send a pic for the Gallery soon hopefully!
