I have 4 of those bad boys, and i have sharpened all of them to a rip cut. Im not a collector/ i have one box at the school where i teach and 1 in my personal shop. 2 Saws for each. One is always ready to go , when i have to sharpen the other. These saws are great, and not just for the miter box, long dados, skinny grooves. I do have one that is giving me a lil trouble, i think i need to increase the set a lil bit, it gets stuck sometimes even in thin stock.. Any other ideas from the hive???

Do you use these? they look like fun, a little rough, but i bet the kids would get a kick out of making them..I really like Adrew( the guy doing the demo). He makes some beautiful pieces.23 January 2020 at 11:02 pm #646127As far as scale, i’m talking about hinges for dovetail ( candle boxes) 3/4″x1-1/2″ , small. A medium sized hinge of decent quality ( gauge)is readily available, at fair prices, Unfortunately the smaller size seems to equate to thinner gauge material( at most big box stores and mom and pop hardware stores.
23 January 2020 at 10:54 pm #646125Dear Sven,
Your words are strong and reinforce what i believe. Unfortunately; The cultural programming of capitalism makes me make economic decisions in my craft, sometimes for the wrong reasons. Maybe i have devalued my previous efforts, i personally don’t think so, but i did feel on more than one occasion that i wanted to install a better hinge. Is there no room for middle quality hinges of a suitable thickness available at a price closer $5-10, per pair.?

22 December 2019 at 1:40 pm #638955I use mine all the time. I true up a lot of rough wood too. Great for long edges
28 November 2019 at 2:53 am #631350I was thinking of starting a thread about saw sharpening! I recently got to the POINT of stopping my work on two of the same projects , i did one, stopped and spent a quick two minutes touching up my saw. The difference in the same cut was stunning. ITs been a few years in this journey, but the growth in sensitivity of sharpness has been one of my favorite skills to cultivate.
16 November 2019 at 1:13 am #627722dont forget the stanley 92, or the record 50. Both of these planes offer super fine adjustments and do great work.

..
My legs are slightly thicker So i think i can miss the tenon too. I have started a thread My secong workbench documenting the progress.. We are getting real close. The vise is in the shop, aprons recessed, top, and wellboard are completed and cut to length. Legs are mortised, rails are milled and cut to length. Doing the tenons, and hopefully leg assembly tonight!!Attachments:
