Hi Sanford, thanks for the reply. This is the first sargent I’ve owned so I wasn’t sure if they were all like that or not. I like the plane other than the reverse adjuster, just gets me turned around when using it, especially changing back and forth between that and my other planes

Just curious, how often do you have to true your wheel on your tormek? It seems I have to do it quite often. I’m wondering if it’s from my shop not being heated or if it’s from trying to take the corners off of plane blades. Do you wait until hand sharpening to take the corners off or do a convex or do you do that on the tormek to start?
25 September 2019 at 10:59 am #611918Have you tried a weed wacker with a circular saw blade? I rent one every few years because the briars on the unkept land that abutts our property start to take over parts of the yard that don’t get used much

15 April 2019 at 10:15 pm #555983Thank you for the reply David. When you plane in from both sides do run the plane off three side of the box or do you lift the plane up off of the work piece?
15 April 2019 at 11:32 am #555952Thank you Larry, very helpful. When I was using Google it was mostly lumber yards or on line dealers. I appreciate all the help
14 April 2019 at 11:10 pm #555948Thanks for the reply Sven, honestly I hadn’t even thought about just buying a new one. I can absolutely see what you’re saying about knowing it’s me and not the tool. I think that is the route I will go.
As an aside, I see you are or have lived in Massachusetts. I live in Gloucester myself. Where do or did you buy your hardwoods? The only place that I really know of is highland hardwoods in southern New Hampshire13 April 2019 at 2:38 pm #555939Thank you for the response. It seems that the ones I am seeing need different levels of restoration but are selling for around 70 u.s dollars and up. Didn’t know if that was a fair price since I’m brand new to using and buying hand tools.
11 April 2019 at 2:01 am #555922Hello everyone,
I’m new to this forum and new to hand tool woodworking. I was wondering what a fair price to pay for a no 71, that needs some restoration, on a site like eBay? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks -
