20 February 2014 at 12:43 pm #28116Eddy I am afraid I am very camera shy.
Also not the most organised person in the world. I’m Probably not the best person to do a video.
I would love to see how Paul goes about doing a fielded panel.
I have about 10 mortise and tenons to do, and I’m thinking of shaping railings. If I do shape railings I’ll think about a lambs tongue on the horns of the gate.
I’ll also put chamfer on the top of each rails to act as weathering.
Still a lot to do but slowly getting there.20 February 2014 at 1:17 pm #28122Forgot to mention always do end grain chamfers and quirks first.
You will lose the breakout when doing the long grain chamfers and quirks.
It’s the same principle Paul uses when doing a bull nose feature.21 February 2014 at 6:38 am #28153Panels look very nice. You’re doing a fine job on that gate. Owner will be pretty happy once installed. I need to build a gate myself but I need to start building more foundational skills first.
23 February 2014 at 10:08 am #28195Looking good Mark, you will have to make a front door to match,Have you sorted out the hardware yet, it will need a good method for securing to the gate post.
23 February 2014 at 11:35 am #28199No I have not sorted out hardware yet David.
There are some T hinges and a gate latch already there on old gate but have seen better days.
I have also got to replace timber posts that attatch to the concrete posts.
So I need to get new T hinges and gate latch new coach bolts with nuts and washers to fix new timber post to concrete posts and some sort of security screws for hinges. To make it harder for someone not to steal gate.
As I only rent will not be making a front door. I’m struggerling with the size of the gate in my she’d let along a door. Also have a perfectly good uPVC door.23 February 2014 at 6:13 pm #28218That gate looks like it just held back a Roman siege. Your new gate will be the talk of the neighborhood. I’m looking forward to seeing that new gate hanging in its new home. It’s going to look fantastic.
23 February 2014 at 8:28 pm #28230LOL horse chewing on gate.
I’m actually not that from an original Roman Road so maybe it did hold the Romans out. 😉 -
