I’ve had a long hard week at work.
Done a bit of shopping with other half came back home and fell asleep on sofa.
I eventually went out to my shed about 15:00 then I got side tracked with a bit of tidying up and sorting tools out. I started on my gate about 17:30 . I set out my mortises and chopped away. I had my dinner after chopped mortises then I cut the shoulders on my tenons to make them 4 shouldered tenons. Then I had fun trying to assemble gate. I came indoors about 21:15.
I’m slowly getting there.Attachments:

Great work! Balanced and precise. Thank you very much for posting.9 March 2014 at 4:22 am #28736Agreed, joinery and assembly looks precise and well done. can’t wait til I get to that level to contemplate a gate or door type project. Colleague should be pretty stunned when he sees it.
9 March 2014 at 3:57 pm #28746Interlocking grain a pain. Cleaned and levelled out joints with no. 80 abrasive paper.
Done shaping to horns, used coping saw, round bottomed spokeshave, card scraper, block plane, and abrasive paper.
I am going to put chamfer around on to rail for weathering also put chamfer on internal edges.
This is quite a task by hand as you have got to consolidate chamfer in corners a chisel plane would come in handy.
I am so tempted to get power router out. Put frame back together and run power router round would all be done in 20 minutes.
Then I would almost be ready for glue up.Attachments:

Glueing up was quite difficult as I do not have enough space to lay gate down flat. I got in a bit of a mess. Also weather very unpredictable to attempt to glue up out side.
Some of my shoulders not perfect on the top section I don’t know what happened to much glue maybe timber bowed?
The main joints came out pretty good. I also glued and wedged the tenons.
Clean and finish when I get some more time off work?Attachments:
