Lol Thanks Eddy, to be honest I was just sort of working it out as I went along, I have only been doing woodwork for couple of months so I’m not even sure if i have done it correct, but the tele hasnt fallen off yet haha.
I did mortise and tenon joints to form the basic frame and small stub tenons for the cross members. Floating panels set in rebates at either end and used turn buttons to hold down top and base. Don’t know if this was any help to you buddy but you’ll certainly get plenty of practice joining boards together and chopping mortises 🙂8 June 2013 at 8:35 am #13172Looks great Scott, your daughter will be very pleased with her new bookcase 🙂
7 June 2013 at 10:41 pm #13161Thanks guys for your comments, now sitting back watching tv on it, although think I am looking at unit more than watching the programme 🙂
4 June 2013 at 7:49 pm #13032As Ken said really, I’m very happy with the Quangsheng planes I have purchased, they feel quality.. When they are new though I find I still reach for my old Stanleys and Records , I like keeping them look new 🙂
4 June 2013 at 12:34 pm #13026Yes I agree Ken, after watching the sharpening tutorial the other night I went out to the garage, sharpened properly and managed to get beautiful shavings on softwood.
4 June 2013 at 8:34 am #13023I know it does become a bit of an addiction, I have started selling my prized guitars to pay for my habit 🙂
I just took delivery of a Quangsheng no.4, no.7 and block plane plus a sweetheart shoulder plane. The way I’m going I will need a bigger garage!26 May 2013 at 10:05 pm #12544Think we all get those frustrating days Mark, only today dropped one of my Ashley Iles chisels and in trying to save it hitting the floor I managed to boot it across the garage probably doing more damage than if I had just left it 🙂
24 May 2013 at 6:37 pm #12487Hi Nathan, the way I managed to get it was by initially performing the action slower than what Paul does it, I found after a while I sort of developed the muscle memory to the point now where I don’t even think about it and the chisel/plane iron is sharpened very quickly..
23 May 2013 at 8:36 pm #12434Thanks David, they was my first, I followed the instructions from a dovetail book I ordered,I think I literally went into a trance like state where I was concentrating so hard 🙂
23 May 2013 at 2:53 pm #12417Thanks fellas, don’t know yet George , I reckon Shellac and wax. It was with some boards I had left, I wanted to use it as a reference for when I copy it with some more decorative timber using two different colour woods like walnut and maple. I have never made or fitted a drawer so was experimenting with that and for this project I cut a rebate on the back just for some ply to fit in but next time would like a solid wood back set in a frame and panel.
22 May 2013 at 4:05 pm #12338I would like to see a technique series showing half lap dovetails, mitre dovetails, mitre joints etc
