I hadn’t the hardest luck finding any routers as well. It seemed that there were tons of old routers on ebay up until I was ready to buy one. Then they were few and far between with a price way to high to boot.
I just bought a new one from Lie Nielson. Really loving it too. They are pricey but its a good tool.
I personally vote for the Japanese saws. I really like them. It takes a bit of getting used too as you have to have a different technique than a western saw but I think they are great after some practice.
I actually plan on getting some of the better made ones that don’t have the replaceable blades soon. I’m going to get the diamond type files to sharpen them. Should be fun.
After watching the video I believe that he using a 2 inch gouge. You can see he has his pinky across the top of it and if its anything like my hands which are pretty average then his pinky is about 3 inches.
Now his pinky is going at an angle so if he straightened it up he would over shoot the side by a knuckles length easy.
